JAKE HESS, GONE HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD |
| |
Sunday
morning , January the 4th Jake Hess finally lost his long
struggle with multiple health problems. Jake was 76 years
of age. I met Jake in the early 70's and he became a great
friend and my mentor since then. I like thousands more,
was saddened by the news. Jake was, both a fine man, a
devoted father, a great lead singer, and most of all,
a tremendous witness for Christ. He and I, along with
our families, attended the same church in Nashville for
many years, and sang together there on occasion. Mike
Meyer, Woody Beatty and myself drove to the funeral home
in Columbus, GA the night before the funeral and then
attended his funeral at Jake's home church the next day.
Many great memories of Jake flooded my mind this week.
Jake was the most imitated lead singer ever in Southern
Gospel Music. I will miss him. But I am very sure the
Statesmen sound better today than ever. Jake you were

TAX EXEMPT |
| |
We
have had several people ask how they might give to Southern
Sound's ministry. You may donate and claim the donation
on your taxes. If you would like information on supporting
our ministry through this method, you may contact Charles
at 270-965-9165. Our costs many times seem staggering,
but to He who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, all
is possible. Pray for our group that we may always follow
His leadership and be good stewards of the resources He
entrusts to Southern Sound.

YOUR CHURCH OR CONCERT |
| |
If you would like to schedule Southern Sound, please call
Charles at 270-965-9165, or our Nashville office. We have
a few open dates left in 2004 and we are taking bookings
for 2005 and beyond. We can also add your name to our
newsletter. Just send us your name address and phone number.
Since our membership has skyrocketed, so too have our
costs. Would you help us defer those costs by sending
a $5.00 donation per year subscription to help with the
spiraling costs of printing and postage? Thank you! |

| NEW YEAR, NEW ENGINE! |
|
| We
recently sang in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and while there
our bus, started running a bit hot. We checked the engine
only to find the crankcase full of antifreeze. (The engine
only had 33,000 miles.) Keith recently went back to Tuscaloosa
and brought "Ole Earl" home, but not before
handing the garage a check for more than I once earned
in a year! I hate buses. I also love buses. So what can
I say? It is our home away from home and we're about hamstrung
without it. |

| 2004 COMING EVENTS! |
|
| This
year we will be at many events that we think will both
be a blessing and a lot of fun. First off we are in Michigan
for the first time ever, and then on March 13th we visit
our good friends at Fares Ave in Evansville, IN. April
finds us in Madisonville, KY with our good friends the
Childress Family at Grapevine Baptist Church. Then in
July we are scheduled to be at the Shadow Valley Festival
in Layfette, TN. When August rolls around we will be planning
our trip to the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion in Greenville,
SC. And of course, blink your eyes a time or two and it
will be time for the National Quartet Convention once
more. Stay tuned, there's a lot going on! |
